Using polearms

Remember that this is a useful defensive weapon and charging at someone using a polearm is foolish unless you are a mounted warrior deliberately lancing. On the other hand, keep threatening your opponent and consistently jab or cut lightly at your opponent (whichever is most appropriate) so that they lose confidence in attacking you.

If your polearm has a sharp thrusting point then keep it forward for the most part, because if you retract ready for a long swing, you open yourself up to safe charging and closing actions, which are anything but safe for you personally! If you are cutting with your weapon against an unarmoured foe, try to often cut in quick and snappy movements rather than hefty blows, conversely beat your opponent senseless if they are heavily armoured and then capture them and watch out for any sidearms like daggers they may have spare.
